1. Why haven't I heard about this technology?
Zoë was introduced recently at the AVMA conference in Washington DC. Although the technology has been used in humans for over 20 years, Zoë has recently been proven effective to treat diabetic dogs and cats.

2. Is this the same technology as used for some needle-free vaccines and medications?
The basic principle is the same, but there are some differences that set the Zoë unit apart from these vaccine units.

3. How does Zoë work?
Zoë uses a coiled spring to generate power and release a powerful stream of insulin. After insulin is loaded into the Zoë injector, a press of a button releases a micro-jet stream of insulin through a tiny opening (0.006 in.) in the tip of the injector. This stream enters the skin, disperses throughout the subcutaneous tissue, and is quickly absorbed.

4. Are the injections painful?
No. Zoë is designed to administer insulin painlessly. Zoë is available in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Each unit has six pressure settings to ensure comfortable injections.

5. Can both U-40 and U-100 insulin be used with Zoë?          Top»
Yes, both types of insulin can be used in the Zoë unit. The Owner’s Manual provides a Dosage Chart for both U-40 and U-100 insulin types.

6. Will the insulin dosage need to change?
Not initially. However, independent studies show that jet injection increases insulin absorption over needle and syringe methods, which means that your clients may be able to reduce the amount of insulin that is required by their pet. (Note: Many human diabetic patients using the needle-free technology have decreased their insulin amounts by up to 20%. A similar result is expected in animals.)

7. How often does Zoë need to be cleaned?
We recommend cleaning the Zoë unit once a week.

8. Is it difficult to clean Zoë?          Top»
No. Cleaning Zoë is easy. Simply fill the cleaning block with 70% alcohol and soak Zoë’s Nozzle and Front Tube for 10 minutes. Allow both parts to dry for half an hour.

9. How long will Zoë last?
Zoë will last for 20+ years. The warranty covers the unit for two years, and preventive maintenance is recommended every four years.

10. Is there a brochure I can give my clients?
Absolutely! You may download and print our Pet Owner Flyer, or you may sign up for the Zoë Network Program and have printed brochures mailed directly to your hospital or clinic.

11. How do the pet owners learn to use the jet?          Top»
The Zoë Welcome Kit includes an Owner’s Manual (complete with loading and cleaning instructions), an Instructional DVD (that will walk your client through every step of the learning process), and a toll-free support line (with trained staff to assist with questions and concerns).

12. What involvement do the veterinarians have in the training process?
It is not necessary for the veterinarian to train Zoë users on how to use and maintain the Zoë unit. The Zoë Welcome Kit comes complete with all of the necessary training materials. Your role involves encouraging frequent glucose monitoring, deciding on the best insulin type for the patient, and advising the location of the injections.
